John P. Denny, MD
“I have always found the eyes and mechanics of vision fascinating. In medical school, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in retinal research and learn more about eye care. I found that ophthalmology offered tremendous opportunity to help improve patients’ quality of life.”
From that time, Dr. Denny has been committed to helping those with eye diseases. Dr. Denny completed a fellowship in vitreo-retinal disease at Emory University in Atlanta. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at Duke University where he was chosen by the faculty to serve as Chief Resident. He also attended medical school and completed an internal medicine Internship at Duke University. He is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of North Carolina State University in Biochemistry.
“The field of retinal surgery has advanced dramatically in recent years. It’s very exciting to have so many new treatments to offer to our patients. We strive to keep at the cutting edge by participating in the most promising clinical trials.” Dr. Denny is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He currently serves on the board of directors of Prevent Blindness North Carolina, and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, and the North Carolina Medical Society.
“I strive to provide the best care for all of my patients. As a father, it seems that I talk about the ‘The Golden Rule’ a lot, and I try to apply it to my medical practice as well. I try to treat each person the way I would want to be treated.” Dr. Denny is a Raleigh native and is pleased to be able to practice in his hometown. “I feel very fortunate to be here. North Carolina is such a wonderful place to live and raise a family. Likewise, North Carolina Retina Associates is a wonderful practice. It’s rare to find such a dedicated and talented group.”
Dr. Denny and his wife have two children. They enjoy swimming, biking, reading and spending time at the beach. Primary Specialty: Ophthalmology VitreoRetinal Surgeon In Practice Since: 2007
“Dr. Denny is very professional - he patiently and carefully walked me through the diagnosis/next steps in great detail and performed the laser surgery at this same appointment. The follow-up instructions were clearly explained and I felt that he and his staff had my best interests in mind at all times. He is an excellent retinal specialist and would highly recommend him.”— NCRA Patient Review
